International Light House/Light Ship Weekend (ILLW) 2018

Again the crew from WANDARC headed down to Cape Schanck Lighthouse for the weekend, this year was a little different for us with the new rules from Parks Victoria.   We had to jump through a few hoops to get there but in the end our permit was granted.   With the help from the guys who run the lighthouse tours we again had a nice comfortable room to transmit from and mingle with the public.

We had three club members this year and we were all set up by 10am Saturday morning. With the 9m telescopic mast and OCF Buckmaster using a FT-991 this year at 100w we had over 70 contacts for the weekend.  The permit we negotiated only allowed operation from 9am till 4pm Saturday and Sunday.

On the Saturday we had the pleasure of having Ian Wright GW0VML from OS with 13 contacts on 20m.  He was using an Icom IC706 putting 100w into a 20m inverted V Dipole at 5.4m.

Ian GW0VML hard at it.

We had a perfect noise level of 0 on all bands, the weather for the weekend was constant with strong winds and rain.  There was even a hail storm that we heard build up on 40m to a nice 20+ noise level.  An awesome weekend was had by all involved and plans are already underway for next year.
